Introduction

According to an article written by the EF Education Fi​rst, there are more than 350 million people around the world speaking English as their first language and more than 430 million people speaking it as their second language. This means that there are English speakers in most countries around the world.

With all that information, I find myself
asking, “Why is English so popular? How did it become a global language? Why do we want to learn more about the English language, as opposed to other foreign languages?”
